ONSUG Radio Button

I remember growing up and taking family road trips. My Dad was a night driver and the family would sleep in the car while he motored through the night tuning in weird local talk radio programs on the am radio. I would always stay awake to keep him company. I would listen to those shows with him, changing stations as the signal, or our interest faded.

Flash to current times. I listen to a podcast called the Nightscape Underground. It is just a guy who chats into a microphone about whatever crosses his mind as he goes through his daily commute and unwinding time after work. It is strangely compelling. The creator of that show gathered other podcasters who were doing similar things and built a network called the ONSUG Network. The idea to be a saving a radio record of the average person in our time. A slice of life archived for posterity. The network also features obscure and lost open source media, generally from the internet archive.

That is a very "Old Highway Notes" kind of idea! it is much like my intentions of preserving a history of place by creating themed playlists. Well, the creator of ONSUG had the idea of a creating a button to push that would open randomly to any spot within their archive of over 17,000 hours of content! Hitting that button is a lot like playing with the am radio as dad barreled the family station wagon into the desert night, leaving Los Angeles.
